Yes, spray tanning is a safe alternative to sun tanning. The solution is applied in a controlled environment and is made with FDA-approved ingredients. However, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider before getting a spray tan.
The typical spray tan will last 5-10 days with proper care and upkeep. It is important to follow the steps listed on our Tan Care section to get the best quality tan possible.
It is best to avoid showering, swimming, sweating, or any water contact for at least 2-6 hours for Rapid tan and 12 hours for regular tans after your appointment. This allows the solution to fully develop and achieve the best results.
Wax 48 hours prior and shave 24 hours prior (to ensure your pores are closed up and your skin is no longer irritated).
Exfoliate the day before (to clear away dry/dead skin cells).
Apply a water based moisturizer to your body at least 2 days before (your skin should be healthy, clean and hydrated for best results). We recommend to stay away from creams and sun tan lotions containing alcohol and oils.
For best results the solution should stay on your skin for the full development time based on the solution used.
First shower should be a quick warm water rinse only. You can wash your hair, pits and parts quick with a natural soap or body wash. Very important that you dab your body dry not rub.
Avoid Dove and Ivory bars of soap as they will create a barrier to the spray tan and also add to premature fading.
Avoid any moisturizers with oil as the main ingredient
Avoid long hot tubs and time spent in a chlorinated pool as this might also cause premature fading
Most important is to stay dry from sweating and water on your skin while you are developing. After your first rinse off you are good to carry on!
